As you may or may not know, we’ve updated our mission statement. “Coburn Place empowers victims of intimate partner violence to live as survivors.” Those two words should jump out at you, even if they weren’t formatted in bold. This is the ultimate transformation for those we serve.
Domestic violence happens when one person in an intimate relationship uses behaviors to gain power and control over the other person. At Coburn Place, the power is restored to the victim. Through a combination of housing, help and hope they can rebuild their lives.
This may seem like a pie-in-the-sky goal and certainly something that is hard to measure in traditional ways. So this is where it gets personal. Look for stories of individual survivors reclaiming their power right here, through social media and in our newsletter. That’s how you’ll know you really are making a difference – a power shift.
And speaking of shifts, you know the part of the mission that says “Coburn Place”? Go ahead and put your name there instead. Kathy empowers victims of intimate partner violence to live as survivors.
Doesn’t that sound incredible? It should. You are Coburn Place. You make it possible.
