Supporter Spotlight: David Weekley Homes

Ed Freeman of David Weekley Homes was looking for a volunteer opportunity for his colleagues. So, he asked his sisters for recommendations. Two of three suggested Coburn Place. And the rest, as they say, is history. A beautiful, amazing, generous history that will touch many lives in the years to come.

With Coburn Place in mind, Ed and his colleague, April Sjoholm, came for a visit. We discussed needs and settled on some projects. They traveled to their corporate office in Texas to make a case for their CARE day. It was a perfect fit between a company with the tag line “Building Dreams, Enhancing Lives” looking to serve and a non-profit organization who believes “Everyone deserves a safe home.”

In May they brought an amazing crew and got to work on a giant agenda – replacing kitchen cabinets and counter tops in 10 apartments, building a storage shed, landscaping the Peace Garden and repairing the raised garden beds. And they surprised the kids with the most awesome lemonade stand ever!

Ed shared some thoughts on his experience, “It was a great and exhausting day, but all of us were energized by the fact that we were able to help your residents, current and future, live a better life. Hearing more than one resident comment about the work accomplished in her apartment brought the day totally into focus for me. What little time we spent there went miles to make these women and their kids lives a little better and brighter. I could not have asked for more out of our day of volunteering. You guys are awesome and your mission is awesome.

We think David Weekley Homes is awesome, too! Thanks for building kitchens and lemonade stands, and sheds. Thanks for your sun burns, for your sweat and your energy. Thanks for staying past the originally expected time, just to get the job done. Thanks for creating homes for our families.

Be sure to watch their Super Service Challenge video and vote. You could help Coburn Place win $50,000!
