Something for Everyone

As adults, we’ve earned the right to make our own decisions. At Coburn Place we treat survivors no differently. It’s our core philosophy. While each participant chooses which services are right for her or his situation, it can be a bit overwhelming and even scary. That’s why we hold fun, informal services fairs.

Once each quarter all Coburn Place adults and children, whether they are part of our housing programs, on the wait list or utilizing services only, are invited to learn about the full menu of services available.  They even get to meet the people who provide them. Dinner is served. Along with a big helping of smiles.

The recent fair included a mix of community partners that suited many different needs. The therapists that facilitate our support groups always attend. The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and Field Works offered employment and training opportunities. Volunteer, Kay, was on hand to talk about her weekly sewing class. (Read more about sewing class.) Many clients got registered to vote. Our friends from Cort Furniture shared info about the special deals they have for clients looking to purchase furnishings. They even raffled off a 32” flat screen TV!

The kiddos got signed up for homework help with our pals from School on Wheels. Eight families joined Girl Scouts. For the second year our friends from TCC and TCC Gives provided pizza, Bric’s ice cream and all the coolest backpacks stuffed with school supplies. This program has donated 752,000 backpacks in just five years! We’re so grateful to be among those to receive them. TCC employee and Coburn Place board member, Detra Mills, feels the same way. She shared, “I am continuously humbled by the creative ways we work together to show that we care and are dedicated to being good citizens of the communities we serve. We are all truly better together.” Agreed. Big thanks to TCC and all of our partners for the care and concern they have for our clients!
