ENTERING HARD HAT AREA

bulldozer at work

The old S-shaped ramp area will be replaced with an easier to navigate straight ramp.

At last! The construction crews have descended upon Coburn Place. After more than three years of intensive planning and dreaming, we have secured funds to make significant improvements to our building and grounds. We also have secured funds to support the building and property costs for the next 15 years.

Our successful non-traditional capital campaign brings the following as new partners in our work:

  • Key Community Development Corporation through the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority’s Low Income Housing Tax Credit program;
  • Irwin Union Bank through the Federal Home Loan Bank’s Affordable Housing Program;
  • City of Indianapolis through Community Development Block Grant funds;
  • Giving Sum Fund through a grant for a new playground;
  • Lilly Endowment, Inc. through a grant for security and lighting;
  • Indianapolis Bar Association “Bar Leadership Series” through a project to create and landscape a peace garden;
  • Volunteer quarterback extraordinaire, Phil Stoffregen, and his colleagues at Pedcor Companies.

Our new partnerships ensure that 100% of your donations to Coburn Place will benefit the families we serve, rather than providing for construction and operating costs.

We are a work in progress! Watch for the removal and rehab of the building’s original windows, replacement of the aging roof with an energy efficient white roof, relocation of the playground with new equipment, the addition of a brick wall, and a redesigned parking lot to maximize space. Inside and out, Brandt Construction crews will make architect Pat Jacob’s design come to life. Our newly designed common areas, entrance areas, and staff office space will ensure confidentiality and safety for families. We will have more efficient space for staff, an upgraded security system, and a fitness center.

Throughout the exciting construction phase, we request that all visitors call ahead or check our Construction Update page for up-to-date information. We will have limited access during part of the construction process. We know that the short-term inconvenience that is sure to descend on us, will transform itself into a fabulous long-term outcome. We look forward to showing the “new” Coburn Place to you!
