We stand strongly with survivors in defense of their reproductive rights.
Because reproductive coercion is a form of abuse, we recognize pregnancy with an abuser isn’t necessarily by choice. One-third of women seeking abortions are victims of intimate partner violence. The decision to continue a pregnancy and be tied to an abuser for life should not be determined by legislation.
Homicide is the leading cause of death for pregnant women. In Indiana, homicides tied to domestic violence have nearly tripled in the last 18 months. Abortions are not simply healthcare – they can be lifesaving.
An abortion ban deprives all women of critical healthcare, but survivors especially will suffer lifelong physical, mental, financial and emotional consequences from being forced to give birth.
There is nothing pro-life about ending safe abortions in Indiana.
