The Wellington Group starting supporting Coburn Place in 2018. They support us through generous donations – both financial and in-kind. They have set up apartments, created welcome home cards for survivors, and participated in many other volunteer activities. “Wellington is such a fun and amazing group!” says Coburn Place Community Engagement Manager Erin Wuertz. “I have really missed their volunteer days during the pandemic. Usually, they set up three days throughout the year to come in and lend a hand with whatever we need.”
What does The Wellington Group do?
At The Wellington Group, we build a path with our clients to help them achieve their financial goals. We walk alongside them, providing guidance, education and accountability. We believe in our process. It is the foundation for everything we do. We listen with the intent to understand, we empower through teaching financial awareness, we steward legacies, and we recognize the small stuff is a big deal.
Do you support other nonprofits in addition to Coburn Place?
The Wellington Group believes it’s important to give back – especially this year when an increasing number of families in our community are struggling to put food on their tables because of the pandemic. TWG also supports Wheeler Mission and Gleaner’s Food Bank in addition to Coburn Place.
Why do you think it’s important to give back to the community?
Indianapolis and Carmel are our communities, and we feel that, as members of these communities, it’s important to support our neighbors.
Why do you think it’s important to support Coburn Place?
We’ve seen the impact Coburn Place has on survivors of abuse and their children. Coburn Place provides safe housing and support to help stop the cycle of abuse, helps survivors transition back into the community, and assists in developing independence. This amazing work cannot be done without help from volunteers to support the organization both financially and in person at the facility.
What has been your company’s favorite volunteer experience at Coburn Place?
The Wellington Group has enjoyed all our volunteer experiences at Coburn Place, but our favorite has been organizing and decorating apartments for incoming residents. We understand that a move to Coburn Place can be quite an adjustment for new residents and their children. We enjoy trying to make their new apartments feel peaceful, cheerful and comfortable.
What are you most looking forward to doing at Coburn Place when volunteer groups are allowed back in?
We’ve been disappointed to not be there in person but look forward to getting back to Coburn Place as soon as possible. It’s so rewarding to know we’re doing something to help serve our community in this wonderful setting.
Have you gotten over the disappointment of Team Thunder’s second-place finish in the Lemonade Stand fundraiser this year?
The Wellington Group and fellow Thunder teammates were certainly disappointed to finish second in the virtual Lemonade Stand, but we’ve been formulating a strategy to make a strong comeback. TWG is so proud of all of the teams and the wonderful result of this fundraiser.
